Restarting your PC is something that is required when installing new software or software updates. Especially in Windows XP, many changes require restarting your PC. And also in problem cases the PC sometimes needs to be restarted as a solution. Windows XP problems can have many causes, and the solution is not always that easy to find. If your system seems to hang or becomes dreadfully slow, the general solution is to reboot the PC. But in quite a few cases Windows problems can be caused by the Windows Explorer. Restarting the Windows Explorer takes far less time than restarting your computer.

If you don’t like the time it takes Windows XP to assess if an application is hanging, you can tweak it to your liking.

Hard disk space is one such system resource. But if you have plenty of free space and maintain a clean pc, you might want to turn of some of these system checks.
Running many programs at the same time on a PC is one of the benefits of modern computing. This does mean that each single program needs to share CPU time with all the other programs. If you need a program to get more processing power, you can change the process priority.
