@Chandima – Can you provide some more detail, like what Windows version, what webcam, and what is the error message exactly?
Do you get the error in all programs where you try to use the webcam?

@Lauren – I would suggest that you first try a different webcam program and see if the image is blurry there too. You can try a chat program like Skype / MSN, or SplitCam / ManyCam.
Most cases with blurry webcam images are the result of the focus. A focus ring on external webcams can help, and with built-in webcams that can be caused by light problems, causing the auto-focus to be off.

I use windows vista home basic…

I have an inbuilt camera in my laptop. The cam has always worked fine but of late it’s really blurry. There is no damage to it, and I have tried to clean it, but nothing has made any difference. I have an HP Compaq Presario using cyberlink youcam. Any help/ideas as to why the sudden problem would be appreciated.

@nes – Is it only blurry in Yahoo or also with other webcam programs? And what Windows version is it?

@platon – That seems to be a hardware problem indeed, I never seen that type of problem be due to anything other than the wrong driver or a broken webcam.

  8. platon says:

my acer one crystal eye web cam produces all green images..and the hue slider doesn’t move from ‘0’..i,ve downloaded and reinstalled the driver with no effect…

is it safe to assume that this is a hardware problem?

@Stephanie rogers – Could be the video format indeed. What are you using to record video? Maybe consider Debut Video Capture, we have an article on recording a webcam video that.
But also check if it is a problem with your internet connection, maybe try uploading to a different video sharing website to confirm.

  11. Stephanie rogers says:

man! i keep trying to post a video on facebook and EVERY SINGAL TIME i try to it keeps saying there is an error! it doesnt even say what the errors are. teaches me not to buy a 20 dollar webcam from wallmart!

  12. Kyle says:

@yudhvir – Do you both have a webcam that is working locally? What program are you using?
In most cases this is because of a network or firewall issue, check if the program you are using is defined as an exception in your firewall or make sure the required TCP or UDP ports are opened.

@Armand – No that is not common, it means the program or driver for the webcam was uninstalled. He should first check if the program is really gone, or maybe the icon is just gone from the Desktop. In any case, reinstalling the webcam software should restore things.

  13. Armand says:

Hey u guys. this is about my friend. He got a webcam but after a year or so, the icon to activate it dissapeared. Is this commonly? Contact me plz.:)

  14. yudhvir says:

@David Rodriguez – The Device Manager can be found in the Control Panel. In Vista and Windows 7 under the Hardware and Sound group and in XP in the System icon, Hardware tab.

@netscie – I do not understand what you mean by “video capture pin” settings, what program are you using?

  16. netscie says:

I set the video capture pin settings. But when I close and run it again all settings are gone.. framerate etc. How can I make it remember those settings? I use an A4 tech webcam. Don’t know the model..

  17. David Rodriguez says:

AHH this is to hard i cant even find the device manager jeeze when i connect it it doesnt show i dont know ho to do this

  18. Kyle says:

@Pen – Normally that error would indicate that the driver is not the right one. If you are sure it is however, it could be that the device is in use somehow when you install the driver.
What you could try is to start Windows in Safe Mode and then install the webcam driver. Another thing to try is to uninstall the webcam in the Device Manager first and then reinstall the driver.

  19. Pen says:

I am using Acer 4736z, Vista. The webcam of my laptop is not functioning. I have downloaded the driver from acer’s website and I have tried to uninstall and reinstall it but everytime I click Acer Crystal Eye webcam, a text box appears saying “camera not found”. I can’t use the camera manually but whenever I try using it on Skype the camera is working. Pls. help. Thank you.

  20. Kyle says:

@anyi13 – If you can recall what changed, try to revert that change. Otherwise, first try to reinstall the webcam device drivers. Just uninstall the current drivers and download and reinstall the latest drivers.
Does it happen with all program that you use the webcam in?

i have a question. i logitech web cam and before it worked perfectly fine but when im starting to use it again, the color is way off. The color would be blue and when i try to fix the settings of the colors, it makes it worse. so what should i do?

  22. Kyle says:

@Sean – I have never really bothered with trying to replace a lens cap in a webcam. If it is under warranty, a repair might be viable, but otherwise I expect repair to cost more than a new webcam. And if it is a built-in webam in a laptop, repair will definitely be very expensive.
If you are handy, you might be able to do it yourself on an external webcam…

  23. Sean says:

scratch that…I looked at the webcam and there seems to be a crack in the part in front of the lens, not the actual lens. I think this is the cause to the blurriness. Any ideas on how to fix/replace this?

  24. Sean says:

yes it worked perfectly fine for about two years then it just stopped working. im in college so it could have possibly been from a drop or a step on, i really dont know how but there doesnt appear to be a crack on it

  25. Kyle says:

@Sean – From my experience a blurry webcam image in general is a focus problem, so if there is no focus ring on the camera, the only option is the software. If your driver is okay and you have this in all programs that use the webcam, it could be a physical problem with the webcam itself. Did it ever work with a clear image?

@debajit – Either the driver is not right for your webcam, or the program that you use the webcam in has a problem. Did you try different programs to test the webcam and did any not have the error?

@Anjum Nisar Ahmed – The latest official driver from Creative for the VF0260 is the August 2, 2007 I believe.
