    @Kyle Thanx for your reply.
Dont know what webcam model i have, computer spec say only webcam and thats it.
i remember that in vista, device manager showed hp webcam 101 but in win 7 shows.. imaging device is USB webcam.
tried several driver finder programs (driveragent, driver dedective) but they also showed only usb webcam. dont have any usb webcams..
Wierd, nothing detects that i have a webcam which is built-in..

@sin – The Acer Crystal Eye webcam has 3 possible drivers, depending on the 3rd party webcam used in the laptop. It is either a Suyin, a Chicony or a LiteOn.
If you right-click the device in the Device Manager (it will be under “Other” or “Unknown”), then select Properties, then select the Details tab.
Now select the Hardware Ids and check what the vendor ID is. It will be the part that says VEN_xxxx
Using that we know which of the 3 drivers you need so I can give you a link.
FYI, the driver finder application I mention in the article will also be able to provide the right driver.

@madmax – I don’t think Compaq provides drivers for that model, since it comes with Vista which supposedly supports the webcam directly.
But a lot of Compaq models use the Vimicro 326 webcam component, so you can check for a W7 driver for that.
If you can list the Hardware Ids, we can check, and maybe also try the driver finder program to see if they have a driver for it.

@Michael – What version of Yahoo messenger are you using? At least make sure you and your chat-partner are using the same version.
Secondly, check the firewall to make sure TCP port 5100 is open for Yahoo messenger.
If you try to see someone’s webcam, they should get the invitation and authorization request. Is that happening at all?

  8. Michael says:

I have the same issue as Nina in Q17……seeing myself in both the sending and receiving windows when using Yahoo Messenger…….I dont see where you have addressed that issue Kyle

  9. Kyle says:

@Theresa – Try changing the video input selection in MSN from the “default” to the webcam device. Although they probably are the same device, making this deliberate configuration change can sometimes help.

@meg – Are you using MSN messenger?

@malcolm scott – What chat program are you using? And does the webcam work on your computer with other programs? If it is, it could be the network settings.

thanks a lot Mr. Kyle! one thing i learned about this whole thing is that you have to uninstall everything and install em all again. i thought removing the source of the problem would solve it, thanks for mentioning flash :D

thank you for your direct reply to my answer. ill recommend this site to my friends too

    :D

  17. Kyle says:

@Joy – Did you try uninstalling the Adobe Flash Player AND Shockwave? Make sure you first completely uninstall them before reinstalling.

  18. Joy says:

just like what @Sarbajit said, im using a lenovo too. i cant use it’s built in webcam when using tinychat, robo.to and even on youtube capture video. shockwave player crashes whenever i try to open it.

however, i can use the webcam on yahoo messenger and skype. i dont know what to do with this. it seems like it’s not working on website-based chats or something like that.

i reinstalled shockwave but it solved the problem. please help me. im running on windows 7, lenovo g460

  19. Kyle says:

@Sarbajit Moitra – Did you try installing Adobe Flash? That is actually used a lot for online media.

@andy – If the alba webcam works in other programs, you could try installing SplitCam or Manycam and see if you can then use it with your instant messenger.

@Ronak – The latest MSN messenger update has modified webcam functionality, and many people have the same problems you have. There is no work-around that I know of, other than switching back to a previous version if available.

  20. Ronak says:

it use to work before and it is running in all other program except in MSN

  21. Ronak says:

but while connect to someone then i cannot see that person and vice versa .And i have tried so many thing but nothing helped . I do not know what to do .

i brought a alba 1.3 mp camera for instant messenger but it doesnt work on it is there any patches out there of ways to get it to work? thanks.

  23. Sarbajit Moitra says:

i installed shockwave but still having the problem my cam and microphone both dont working online but in offline its allright to capture own video. when online i allow my webcam and microphone the browser crahing even in youtube , omegle, chatroullette . its disturbing. plz plz plz help me

  24. Kyle says:

@nicola – If it works fine in all other programs, it is possible the problems are due to the recent changes in MSN regarding the webcam functionality. I would not start changing things just for that. Maybe try a 3rd party application to use your MSN account (like Trillian) until things work again.
@kishore – Are you using a different computer or a dual boot configuration? What is the webcam brand and model, maybe you don’t have the right drivers for XP? Especially with newer model webcams, the support for XP might be that good.
