Hi, I have Arcsoft WebCam Companion 3. I have a built in webcam and everytime I try to open up my webcam, it would say, “A webcam was not found or is not working properly. Please click Connect button and try again.” I don’t know how to fix it. I know I have uninstalled some unfamiliar programs in my computer, could that be the cause? I wanted to uninstall the Arcsoft WebCam Companion 3 and download it again but it would cost money. I don’t think my brother bought the program when he gave me this laptop. Can you please help me?
    Thank you

@Malik – Once you restore the laptop to factory defaults, the webcam should work again (assuming it did at the start).
If the webcam device is installed in the device manager, but the program you want to use the webcam with does not recognize it, try using SplitCam.

@mark – What chat program are you using? Make sure you select your webcam as the default video input device. But does the webcam work at all in a local program? If not, it might be you need to install the webcam driver first.

    ok taa
i downloaded them went to setup
and 2 of them said please plug
in the webcam device into the usb port :S

  11. Kyle says:

@sin – Assuming you are referring to my offer to put up the 3 possible drivers:
    LiteOn
    Suyin
    Chincony

I won’t leave them up for too long for obvious reasons, hope one of them works for you.

  12. sin says:

    oooh yesss please !!
if you could do that …

  13. sin says:

    i opened Device Manager and
there was no Other” or “Unknown ….! that i could see

@madmax – The error that another program may be using the webcam is most due to a driver or program incompatibility issue. Have you tried using the camera with SplitCam?
You can try checking for other programs that could ‘lock’ the webcam, but I have never seen this problem resolved that way.

@Tracy – What chat program are you using, and does the webcam work locally with other programs?

@Didi – You recovered? So did you also completely reinstall Yahoo messenger? If not, try that first.
And just to be sure, is this about the webcam not connecting or is YM not connecting at all?
If it is the webcam, first check if it works locally with a different program, like SplitCam or Debut Video Capture.

can’t fix webcam x through camera when chatting pls help

  18. madmax says:

i tried Acer Crystal Eye but it didnt work either.
Then ive done factory recovery with vista dvd and now even on vista live messenger says that close any program that may using other program and try again. Unchecked all startup area, restarted, nothing..
Then I formatted hard drive and made win 7 clean install. Installed only youcam 3 and live messenger but still some program may using it but microphone is working correctly.
Is it possible that some other device(conflict) would causing it and would not let connect to the webcamera?

hey my webcam isnt working i have an hp pav dv7 and the cam just wont work it works on myspace and chatting but not if i ope it just from my comupter??? what might be the prob?

  20. Kyle says:

@madmax – That is definitely a Sonix webcam, but they do not offer direct driver support. Only manufacturer’s using the sonix components offer drivers for them. In this case I have not seen any Windows 7 driver for it. It might be that one of the Acer Crystal Eye webcam drivers is compatible, since they also use Sonix a lot.

  21. madmax says:

    there are two of them..

    USB\VID_0C45&PID_6310&REV_0000&MI_00
    USB\VID_0C45&PID_6310&MI_00

  22. Kyle says:

@madmax – Yes, that is where you should look :)

@sin – Weird. I can upload all 3 drivers if you want and you can try them all, since we don’t know which one is the right one?

  23. sin says:

ok so i bring up Device Manager … but it was not there Other” or “Unknown

  24. madmax says:

    @Kyle
dont know is it right place to look.. device manager USB camera properties and details tab and property list(hardware ids)?

  25. Kyle says:

@madmax – The programs are right in showing a USB webcam, as even built-in webcams internally connect to the USB hub, so they really are USB devices.
If you can list the hardware id, I am sure we can pinpoint the right driver.
