Say Kyle. I dint see any of the other guys with my particular problm, My PC blew its hard drive two months ago. It was under warranty and the hard drive was replaced. I had to upload all my previous program of which one was my webcam. Since the new hard drive was installed the old webcam did work anymore. I bought a new one and it wont work either. “Camera is used by another application” is the message I get. I googled it and saw that the trouble may be found in the task manager. Ps.I use a Mecer Graphite tower case with Vista Home Premium operating system and currently a Eye 110 Genius webcam. When I push the button on the webcam it take a picture but the image is blurred. The camera apperes on the divice manager and is working fine as per the device manager. I tried to update the drive and was told that the driver is the best one for the job. What gives :( Thanks a million! :-D

@syed – So the webcam does not work in any program? In that case I’d try reinstalling the webcam drivers (make sure you have the right one for your Windows version), and try reinstalling DirectX (download the runtime version suited for your Windows version).

@alex – Just check if you installed something or updated something, and undo that if possible. You can also try a restore point to bring back the configuration to a working state. Updates can sometimes cause such unexpected failures.
You have tried uninstalling Youcam and reinstalling it?
If all this does not work, let me know the HP laptop model number, and maybe I can check more.

Hey Kyle, you seem to really understand this webcam stuff. My Youcam on my hp laptop was working great up until yesterday. I opened the program and it said, ‘No webcam detected. If you are using an integrated camera, please make sure it is turned on.’I have tried many things, pressing the fn and associating f2 key, updating the program, trying to find it on the Device Manager (it wasn’t on there), and googling the problem. It still isn’t working. I feel like it’s just this small problem, just don’t know how to fix it. Please help if you can, thank you :).

@Roshan – In Skype you can select the video source, which will also show TV (capture) cards. But if your webcam does not show there, it is probably not installed. You might not have the right driver. If you list your webcam brand and model (or notebook details), I might be able to help.

@Vicki – You can start the device manager by typing ‘devmgmt.msc’ at the Start menu.

@fernando – Please list your problem in English…

@Jerry – One thing you can try is to goo into the Device Manager and locate the device (probably under ‘Other devices’). Then right-click it and select update driver. Make sure you select the manual driver location and then browse to the HP install disk. You might need to select one of the subfolders on it.

I have a HP 2 megapixel webcam that I have successfully installed the driver for on 2 other computers. Can’t get it to install on my wife’s Dell Vostro 200 running XP SP2. The drive install from the HP disk seems to work OK. When I plug the camera into the USB port and proceed with the Found New Hardware Wizard, it searches for a while then tells me the hardware was not installed because it could not find the necessary software. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Help!

Um.. it was helpful, but i couldn’t find the Windows Device Manager and that was no help. Please help! I have the webkam installed in my laptop. Any advice? Thanks!

  14. Roshan says:

my web cam doesn’t capture any image. tried uninstaling and re installing . but same issue. It seems to be like the driver updated is something wrong as it shows in skype as some kind of a tv card driver.
    please help.

  15. Kyle says:

@Sara – Seems like your webcam works fine, and can also be seen by your friends. If you cannot see them, it can be a network problem, or a problem with the program you are using. Which program are you using for the chat with your friends?
Regarding the network, make sure that the webcam program is defined as an exception in the firewall, so the ports are not blocked.

  16. Sara says:

Hello, i got a problem..When i got my computer and had web with my friends’ i could see their face’ but now everytime i only turn on their web’s i’t doesn’t work, it says that it turnt off again, and when we do web so we can hear each other too, they can see the both of us’ but i can only see me, and their web is all gray, it’s a build-in web, since i have a laptop..What do i do?

  20. Kyle says:

@jamie holmes – Did you try different programs to use the webcam? Also try reinstalling the webcam driver, and even DirectX.

@Andi – If possible, at least try Skype, in my experience it has better audi/video quality than MSN.

@Emma – Make sure to go through the Audio and Video setup in the Tools menu. In the webcam selection, you need to select ManyCam as the video source, not the standard webcam device.

  21. Emma says:

i have a asus X5DC windows 7 and when i put my cam on its upside down so i was told to download manycams its fixed it but when i want to go msn its still upside down please help thank you

my web cam comes up white how do i fix it

  24. Jura says:

    Kyle –

It’s online and general use. It is the same in all light conditions. We think it is something wrong with a lens it self, we’ll bring it back to the shop even it was bought few months ago, there is still a warranty for it. Thanx a mill for your comment. Will let you know what was the problem :)

  25. Kyle says:

@chloe – If it works on MSN, you should be able to use it in other programs. Have a look at recording video with your webcam, and there are plenty of programs that you can use to take pictures.

@Jack – Possibly you have some kind of conflict, maybe with USB devices. Try unplugging everything external. Could also be that you need to update a driver on one of the other devices to solve the conflict.

@Jura – Is this only when you use it online, or even locally? Quality issues are generally the result of limited bandwidth or low light conditions.

@Kim – Did you try reinstalling the webcam driver? I believe the HP Pavilion dv9000 has a Ricoh webcam in it.
    What is your Windows version?

@Andi – You can easily test the speed by downloading and uploading a file to test it. If the bandwidth is insufficient that might cause problems indeed.
Are you using a separate mic or the one built into the webcam?
And what program are you using to call/chat? Have you tried different programs, like MSN and Skype?
