OS says : new driver making crash.
Video works , – but no Audio at all .Win Xp on SP3 has all updates everything just fine ,-
even BIOS updated . Issue with Audio Driver . SoundMax
mostly installed on Win XP has no Digital Driver for USB port . Because Mic hook up via Analog jack works fine .
DirectX installed . About SYS file – Logitech recommend
to Run MSCONFIG before Reboot . Doesn’t work that trick .
    Cheers

@JS Md – Considering that you have tried a number of different USB webcams already, and the problem persists on all of them, it is more likely that the problem is with the USB configuration or Windows itself.
I assume you have applied all post SP3 updates?
Also try reinstalling the DirectX 9.0c runtime download from Microsoft. Some webcams use directdraw and directsound for video and audio.

What is the BSOD error code you get btw? And is there any mention of a .SYS file on the blue screen when it happens? That can pinpoint the driver that is causing the crash.

The Microsoft webcam detection problem is funny indeed!

    About Webcam Drivers
be advised there are two drivers needed
Video and Audio – both digital . SoundMax probably must be reinstalled .
Logitech Video works but no sound
Microsoft couldn’t find his own webcam :-)

    Re: Kyle
I’ve returned three USB webcams with Mic- Logitech, Microsoft and Kinobo .
Computer crashes /blue screen/ . Webcams were running on Win XP SP3 .
Mic via Analog Jack works fine .
Web Cam /only/ via USB works again – just fine .
When Webcam has a mic with a single wire via USB – Computer crashes . Even Video worked on Logitech – but no Aduio . I do believe SoundMax has an analog driver

@jae – Don’t say what? Or look like what? You’ll need to be a bit more specific…

@JS Md – What is the webcam brand and model, and what is your Windows version?
You have tried different USB ports and reinstalling the webcam drivers?

  8. JS Md says:

WebCam with Mic via USB for Desktop
    making my PC to crash
WebCam with TWO separate wires – Video via USB and Mic via Analog Jack works just Fine
So the problem located in USB Connection

@Lita – That looks like a production fault, and is not something you can correct using software. Even if you get the options to work, the vertical tilt is not something you can normally change with built-in webcams. I’d take it back to the shop or call the Acer service center.

@Azi – The Dell webcams need the Dell webcam central software, which can be downloaded on the support site of Dell for each laptop model.
Have you tried reinstalling the driver and webcam central software for the 1.3M pixel webcam in the Inspiron 14R?
If it affects your keyboard as well, it could also be a problem with the USB ports, since webcam, mouse and keyboards all use the USB bus (unless you use a PS/2 keyboard).

  11. Azi says:

hey, i don’t know why, but my webcam’s having shit loads of problems. before this, it was working perfectly fine. then all of a sudden, i can’t go on cam and my keyboards are working funny. i don’t know what webcam im using since it’s built in. it just comes out as intergrated cam. I’m using a Dell 14R. please help

  12. Lita says:

@sahar – If there is no webcam in the Device Manager in the Sound, video and game controllers, that means the webcam is not recognized as a webcam device. Possibly because of a missing driver.
Is there any device in the Device Manager in the “other devices” or “unknown devices” category?
If so, you can check the properties to see the error. In any case, you can try installing the webcam driver to try and make the webcam device recognized.

  14. sahar says:

i dnt have the camera icon in sound , video and game controllers :s

  15. Kyle says:

@Valentin – What laptop are you using? Generally the webcam will come on automatically when a program that can use it accesses it. Some manufacturers install additial webcam software to access the webcam, and take pictures with it, but it depends on the brand.

  16. Valentin says:

I can’t see an option in my laptop for the webcam.

  17. Kyle says:

@Tanya Partin Lawton – There are a few comments in which audio problems with webcams were discussed, but what exactly is your problem?
Are you using a laptop with a built-in webcam and microphone? Or an external USB webcam with microphone?
And which Windows version and which program are you using?

  18. Tanya Partin Lawton says:

Hi, you are only talking about video and not audio. I am having that problem everywhere I look. I go on the web to ask about audio and I get a response for video. Can you help fix my audio on webcam?

  19. Kyle says:

@Devin – What webcam model is this and what program are you using? Have you tried different programs?

@sol – Would be better if you can list the hardware id of the device (device manager -> right click the device -> properties -> details tab).

  20. sol says:

i dont have installer of web cam.. o dont know where to find it and the right installer… i always..search.. but still cant.. i only see this one.. in my copy/…(usb pc cam v001)

  21. Devin says:

my built in webcam is not workin a black screen is showing

  22. Kyle says:

@wondering – What program are you using for the webcam? And did it work before, or did the webcam never work so far?

@Mickey – Generally problems with webcam images that show upside down are related to the webcam driver. Try reinstalling it and see if that helps.

  23. Mickey says:

when skyping, my webcam is projecting my picture upside down……what up?

  24. wondering???? says:

This Dell studio laptop is acting up,
the web cam shut’s off when i try to use it.
then it act’s like it want’s to shut
the system down and then reboot.

  25. Kyle says:

@steveo – Can you install SplitCam and see if the webcam can be accessed using that? It might be a Skype specific problem. If it works, you can try an older version of Skype, or use the SplitCam device as the input device for Skype.
