@kamala – Your acer aspire 3610 also has an internal webcam if I am correct, so make sure you select the correct webcam as the video input source in your application.
You could also try to disable the internal webcam in the Device Manager, in which case the new webcam will automatically become the default webcam.

@tye – This could be because of your Internet connection if you are using a wireless Internet connection. Check the strenght of the WiFi signal if you are having problems.
You can try to optimize the wireless channel in case you find that is the issue indeed.
If not, it could also be a conflict with a USB device. Try disconnecting all external USB devices.

@GAGAN – If the webcam has been blurry ever since you bought it, it is of course possible that there is a manufacturing error. But I would suggest you try updating the webcam driver, and try a different webcam client (e.g. try SplitCam for example). See if that makes a difference.

I have a toshiba m640 laptop, and it has been only a little less than a year that my built in webcam is blurry. The webcam had always been blurry. I did take the protective screen paper out still it was blurry. I tried to fix it with the settings but that was no help. It doesn’t has to do with the internet being on or off, its blurry no matter what. What can i do, is there a way to update the cam, i am clueless on what to do to make it better. Please help!!!

My webcam on my Dell computer cuts out from time to time and I dont know why….then it comes back on when it feels like it?? I realize whenever it does cut out its because of me moving my laptop sometimes. How do I fix this problem ?

i have plug in the usb but when i try to take the pc it doesnt work.help

@Crystal – The webcam driver is probably installed and the webcam device is working, but you seem to be missing the program that you used for accessing the webcam.
Different manyfacturers use different programs for that. YouCam is often installed for example.
If you let me know the brand and laptop model, I can suggest the link for you to download the webcam software.

I got my laptop fixed and when i got it back the webcam wasnt in the start window but it says its functioning properly in device manager, i’ve tried searching in my start menu but it says it cannot be found… this has happened to me and my sister when we got our laptops fixed, i dont know if the people deleted it or what?

  7. Kyle says:

@Jessica – What is the model of you Packard Bell laptop?
I’d like to check the specifications and webcam details, including the software.
Possible Windows 7 directly supports the webcam, without specific Lite on drivers, but from what I know the ‘can’t build the graph’ error would be caused by compatibility issues. Since it worked before, restoring the original driver and webcam software should fix it.
Hav eyou tried unstalling the webcam device completely in the Device Manager and reboot to see if Windows 7 supports it natively?

  8. Jessica says:

Hi, I have a Packard Bell laptop, it came with a Lite one web cam built in, but now it wont work, it just says ‘cant’t build the graph’
it wont let me reinstall or uninstall it as it says the files arent there or that they arent compatable with this version of windows (windows 7. not been changed since i bought the laptop so this makes no sense)
tried new drivers, no change, device manager says its working fine so my thought was that its more the lite one software that has messed up, buuuuuut, ive been on lite on’s website and theres no mention of my webcam

  9. Kyle says:

@david – Can you be a bit more specific? Did it ever work? What is shown in the Device Manager?

@ROPAM – Caps Lock stuck as well?
There might be another program that you installed that has caused the problem. Have you tried reinstalling the drivers AND the the YouCam software?
Try using a program like SplitCam or ManyCam and see if they can access the webcam. Generally they don’t have issues with “webcam in use” type of problems.

  10. ROPAM says:

AM USING HP G60 IN BUILT CAMERA…USED TO WORK PERFECTLY WELL BUT THEN LATELY WHENEVER I SWITCH ON THE CYBERLINK YOU CAM IT TELLS ME CANT FIND THE WEBCAM…ANOTHER PROGRAM MIGHT BE USING IT WHILE THERE IS ACTUALY NO PROGRAM USING IT, CHECKED ALL DRIVERS ARE OKAY….WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH IT?

  13. sarah says:

hey, i have a built in camera but my laptop crashed and i lost everything, but i managed to get some back, but i cant find how to get up the camera anymore :/

  14. Kyle says:

@Liz – If the webcam is working locally, but the other person cannot see you, it is more likely to be a network/firewall setting than a webcam problem.
Have you tried YM instead of Skype? And try adding Skype as an exception to your firewall, so it does not get blocked.
On the vaio laptop, you might need to install a driver for the mass storage controller and any unknown devices to solve the conflict issues.

  15. Liz says:

Hi this is Liz !I just signed up for Skype on PC(XP Pro), The web camera(Amcap) worked for 2days. The other person can’t see me. I’ve removed & reinstalled(disk) still not working. Have similar issue Vaio Laptop running (Win7)camera built in except conflicts under other devices (mass storage controller & unknown devices. This is exhausting. I’d really like to get the laptop working for obvious reasons!!

  16. Kyle says:

@Lucy – Does the colour problem happen in all applications?
If it is a software issue, it will be either an application specific setting, or the general webcam settings that you need to change (like the Video Capture Proeprties screenshot that is shown in the article).

  17. Lucy says:

Hey, i have just installed a webcam and it is all working, except for the colour of the images that it takes. it is really blue and completly off colour, i have tried to adjust the settings, but no matter what i do it doesnt work… HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Kyle says:

@Nana – Upside down images from webcams are generally either a configuration issue or a driver problem.
In some webcam software configurations, you can configure to flip the image both horizontally or vertically. That can be use to resolve the upside down issue if available.
The other option is the driver issue. Not sure what Windows version you are using, but sometimes there is no direct support for the OS, so using a compatible driver can resolve the issue.
I can only comment more if you provide more details, like Windows version and hardware details.

  19. Nana says:

Amcap webcam is upside down help?

  20. Kyle says:

@Roxel – It could be that some Windows update is conflicting with your webcam device, but in itself the right driver should still solve the problem.
What Windows version are you running?
One more option to try is to not just uninstall the webcam or unknown usb devices, but to uninstall the USB Root Hub devices. Then reboot and they will get reinstalled automatically. This can actually help in fixing other USB device problems too.

@Sheikh – Online use of a webcam often depens on Adobe Flash, so try (re)installing or updating your Flash version. You can also try using a different browser to see if your current browser is causing the problem.

    Hi RAE,

  22. Roxel says:

one more thing.. i downloaded the driver finder but it didnt find any driver for the webcam.. thanks

  23. Roxel says:

Hey, i have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop with built-in cam, 5 months i suddenly couldnt find it in msn then i tryed to install its driver from the dell site but it gave me an error message “an error occured while setting up the driver” at 90%, i tryed to find a soultion and ill i tryed didnt work, i even reinstall my windows, then i gave up and 1 month later i tryed to install the driver again and it just worked… then 2 days ago same problem happened again, i went to device manager and didnt find the cam but found 3 hidden unkown devices in the usb bus controllers, i uninstalled them then tryed to download the driver again but same error occurs.. i downloaded the 3d part uninstaller but found no software for the webcam… i don’t know what’s going on, i wish you can help me and thanks in advance…

  24. Kyle says:

@Darm Carolina – If you are not able to view other peoples webcam, that generally means a network or security issue. You should check that the firewall is not blocking the (chat)software that you are using.
Make sure to have your chat partner also check their firewall and router setup.

@Charlie – Normally I would suggest to uninstall the unknown usb device, but you mention that was not possible.
Somehow the Windows 7 configuration is not recognizing the driver for the webcam, even thoug the correct driver is present on the system.
Whay I suggest is you select the unknown usb device in the Device Manager and then slect to manually update the driver. In that process you can select the path for the driver, where you should point to the folder that has the correct driver.
If you let me know which HP Pavilion dm4 model you have exactly (bottom of the computer in most cases), I can tell you which driver to download. If you already have the right one, simply open the EXE file with 7-zip and extract the contents to a folder.

@Yoshi – The Trust 16428 webcam does not require external drivers, Windows 7 should support this USB 2.0 webcam directly. The fact that your skype or msn crashes together with the w-lan connection getting cut in some cases, makes me think that it is actually a conflict between the webcam and the w-lan connection.
Are you using a USB w-lan interface maybe?
In any case, make sure to connect the webcam to a usb 2.0 port on the computer directly, and not through a USB hub. And also try updating the w-lan driver, that can help fix compatibility issues if that is the cause.
Any problems in using the webcam on a local program (for example to record a video with your webcam)?

  25. Yoshi says:

    Dear Kyle,
I have some issues with my webcam aswell.
Eventhough its plug and play it took me forever to get it to work at all. The ports simply didnt recognize it. Now that its working, it keeps crashing my Skype or MSN if I try to use it with it or completely kills my connection. (W-Lan)
Im using Win 7, a Trust16428Cam and yes, the DeviceManager notifies my webcam :P
    Kind regards~ Yoshi.
