@Tyesha S – It depends on what program you are using to capture your webcam picture(s). If the webcam works in online programs, then the driver for the webcam would be okay. So the problem is most likely with the application you are using.
Could be the repair resulted in the loss of your previous videos and pictures, you will have to check with the person that repaired the computer. Maybe you can still undelete the lost files.
But try a different video capturing program, like Debut Video Capture for example, or try ManyCam and see if one of those works.

@Rachelle – The first thing I’d suggest you try is to uninstall the webcam in the Device Manager, and then run the installer for the original Ricoh webcam driver.
After that download and reinstall the Sony Notebook Utilities, which includes the webcam capture utility. Try running the webcam utility to see the picture of the webcam before you try using the webcam with other programs.

@Daniel – Best thing is to download and reinstall the webcam software again from the manufacturer’s website.

@grace – Normally that problem is related to the drivers. Did you try different programs to access the webcam?
If you let me know what webcam model (or laptop model if the webcam is integrated) you are using and which Windows version, I can point you to the right drivers and software.

@Dave – First thing to do is determine if your PC is the issue of the audio coming from your daughter’s laptop.
If you play audio online, on a website, does that work? E.g. youtube videos, do they have sound on your computer?
If everything works locally, you get sound from local files and on the Internet, the cause is probably with the laptop, or Internet connection your daughter is using.
Ask her to try and have a chat (skype, MSN, or YM) with someone else and check if the sound works on the other end in that case. If not, the firewall where she is could be blocking a port.

@Rachelle – What is the exact model of you Vaio laptop? Can you check the model on the sticker at the bottom and let me know so I can check some more?

  8. Rachelle says:

I need help! I bought a used Vaio laptop with Windows Vista and I cannot get the built in webcam to work. The shop I bought it from said the webcam did work. Every program I try to use (skype, msn messenger, etc) says “cannot connect device. the device may be already in use by another program.”

I have checked the device manager and it says the device is running properly. I have tried clicking to update the device driver but I always get the notice that drivers are up to date. I have turned all unessential programs off at start up, restarted the computer and then tried “webcam viewer 1.0” and I still get the same message. The light next to the webcam (it says motioneye) never comes on.

I have been working with the techs that I bought the computer from and they are stumped too. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks so much!
    Rachelle

Installed a webcam and tried to connect with a laptop before my daughter took it to college. Worked at home, but now we both get pictures, she can hear me, but I can’t hear her. Using Vista.

@help – Officially Asus does not support Windows 7 on the asus x59sl model I think, so you will need to either:
    – use Vista compatible drivers for the webcam, or
    – use compatible Windows 7 webcam drivers from a different source

The x50sl model can have different brand webcams, so you need to check the hardware ID of the webcam to find the right driver for it. I assume that when you installed Windows 7 first, it used a standard Win 7 driver for the webcam, resulting in the inverted image. That is indeed generally a driver issue, so with the correct driver you should be able to fix it.\If you list the hardware ID, I can try to suggest an alternate source for the webcam driver.

@makala – You can simply download the Cyberlink YouCam software for your computer from the HP site.
Reinstalling it should hopefully restore your webcam to working condition.

  13. makala says:

Sorry i meant to say, cyberlink. also i have cyberlink youcam 3

  14. makala says:

Hi, i have cyberlink youcam. I downloaded many cam online for free and now cyverlink isn’t working! I always make video diaries so it is veeeeeeery important that it should work. I never downloaded cyberlink, i think my computer just came with it. I have an Hp pavillion g7.

@Davinder – Have you checked that you have the latest BIOS version for your Gateway NV55c? I saw that there was an update to the chicony and lite-on webcams in version 1.15 and 1.19.
And apart from the recovery disk, don’t you have a separate driver disk for the laptop? The system recovery disks sometimes do not have all the (latest) drivers.
Best thing would be to manually install the driver for the webcam again.

  16. Davinder says:

Hi, I have Gateway NV55c. I restored my laptop’s system from factory setting with recovery disk that comes with the laptop. but when everythings done it start installing softwares and i’m stuck on Lite-On camera.window shows error that The faild to install liteon camera.

@alicia – What is the exact model number of your MSI netbook, and what Windows version are you running?

  18. alicia says:

Hi irecently got an Msi wind Netbook and the Webcam says its not connected at all please help

  19. Kyle says:

@joann – I assume the webcam used to work in the past?
If so, try using the system restore option in Windows to bring back a configuration from earlier and see if that helps.
You can also try using a program like SplitCam to see if the webcam works locally.

@Joey – Most chatting sites like the omegle you linked to, use Adobe Flash to access the webcam. So the first to try is to reinstall the Flash Player. Also check that the security software you are using is not blocking the chat site.
Btw, is your computer going super slow, or the webcam image?

  20. Joey says:

everytime i try to go on a chatting website it freezes and goes super super slow how do i fix that please help

My webcam is doing the same. It will have the blue light on, but you cant see anything. My side is black. I have tried to uninstal it, and reinstal it. and it still isnt working. i had skype downloaded, but i uninstaled that and reinstaled the webcam and still nothing. i have even tried the system recover. it still only shows the blue light, but no picture! its very aggrevaiting!!

  22. Kyle says:

@joann – Even if the webcam shows as working in the Device Manager, something can still be wrong with the configuration. From your description, it is possible that a recent update or installation of a program has affected the graphics part of the video streaming from the webcam.

Simply try reinstalling the webcam driver from the Toshiba website, and if that does not help, try using a Windows restore point to bring back the system’s configuration to an earlier date (where it was working).

  24. Kyle says:

@josh – So does the webcam work with a local webcam program, like SplitCam or ManyCam?
If so, that means the issue is with the Internet browser or with the online webcam software (most likely adone flash player). Try reinstalling the flash player, or run your browser without add-ons.
