Get Ready for Universal Charging Cables
Well, at least in Europe! The European Union has finally decided to require all new portable devices to have a USB-C charger from 2024 onwards. For laptops, the deadline is 2026, so they will have more time. In reality, a lot of manufacturers are already switching to the USB-C port to offer a more universal charging standard.
The individual member states still need to approve the EU decision, but this is expected later in October.
Charging solutions have long been a proprietary aspect of electronics manufacturers. Connectors and output voltages vary, sometimes for very valid reasons. But there is something to be said in favor of using a charger that can be used for different devices. Less electronic wastage and less hassle with different chargers (or cables) are the main benefits. Better for the environment, and better for consumers.
Since the new requirement applies to almost all new portable electronic devices, it will be interesting to see how large manufacturers with custom charging solutions will adjust. Apple is one of the main opposers, claiming it limits innovation. They will need to migrate from their lightning port (iPhones) to a USB-C port to cater to the new requirements in the EU.
Update: even Apple now confirmed that they will (reluctantly) adopt USB-C even for the iPhone.
Luckily, there are a lot of USB-C charging solutions available already. This includes various cable and adapter solutions to combine different connectors and chargers.
Thank you. It works.

Although the answer to this question is correct, it is really a cop-out answer. It's easy enough to find answers…
