The $99 Netbook Is Here
Yes, you read the title right. Acer has come out with a $99.00 netbook which sells at Radioshack. The price is so low because Acer has subsidized it from its 3G provider, AT&T.
So where’s the catch? In the two year contract that you have to sign with AT&T. They provide the 3G connection, which allows the Netbook to connect to the internet. The overall two year contract ($60 per month) will be $1,140 which you will not have to pay upfront.
According to PC Magazine, “Many people internationally are already enjoying the portability, on-the-go connectivity and affordability of this emerging new technology,” said Peter Whitsett, RadioShack’s executive vice president of merchandising, in a statement. “We are proud to introduce this concept in the U.S. by offering a netbook with integrated 3G functionality in addition to full Wi-Fi capability.”
The Acer netbook is equipped with Windows XP, an 8.9 inch display, an Intel Atom processor, 1 gig of RAM, a webcam, Wi-Fi ready as well as 3G enabled. The offer is only good at Radio Shack through December 24th.
