The Apple iPhone SE updated
As expected, Apple announced the release of a new version of the iPhone SE. Details are also as expected, as almost nothing remains a secret ahead of time when it comes to new tech products.
So, yes a new processor, the A15, for better performance (and better battery life according to Apple). That’s great because iOS 15 and today’s iOS apps require more and more processing power.
But also a new camera and 5G support which will keep the phone at par with new technologies. Better photos and video quality (yet again) and a faster network for uploading and downloading content. And if you are into video streaming on your phone, supposedly up to 10 hours of online video streaming! Better upgrade your data plan…
Most users of the iPhone SE will buy it for convenience and practicality of use. That’s why I got my first iPhone SE. I did not need a big screen, the opposite, it makes it cumbersome to carry around. But I did want an Apple product based on the quality, safety, and convenience of the App Store, and the user-friendliness of the OS.
The fact that the glass got better, it is still water-resistant (IP67), and the screen is still 4.7 inches, makes this a very attractive upgrade from the previous version.
And lastly, the price. Do we really need to, and want to, spent around a thousand dollars on a high-end phone? You get a decent laptop for that! The previous iPhone SE was $399 (suggested retail price), while the new version will be $429. So it is a tad more expensive, but with the cost of electronics and the cost of shipping due to fuel prices, that is to be expected. We do not expect them to give up any margin, do we?
So yes, I will probably keep an eye out for availability. Preorders start March 11th, and shipping will start a week later.
