Hi Anthony, I tried ManyCam but it seemed to come with some rather suspect looking bits. Even trying to uninstall it produced some nasty processes wanting to install executables. Why people have to do that I don’t know. Anyway it couldn’t find use my cams so had to come out. I can understand free program developers having to use advertising but that type of intrusion is bad for everyone. The residue in the registry is hard to clean up too.
I think my solution is to use USB capture devices for the cams to hook into with RGB or component as that will show up as a USB webcam. I have know people reporting out in the field use Splitcam for reports straight from their laptops with Firewire cams that have appeared on international news channels through Skype.
If Splitcam can sort it and charge for a version without ads I’d buy it.

@Patrick J. – Pity indeed, but it is part of the problems with Windows 7 at this stage, a lot of (older) hardware is not supported and may never be.
On the other hand it seems SplitCam can also use some improvements, particularly the 64-bit support.
Btw, have you tried ManyCam on Windows 7 with your firewire cams?

  4. Patrick J. says:

I was running Splitcam on XP with two Firewire cams running in my studio and it was great. Now running Win 7 (32 bit) and it says my cam is unsupported and generally won’t play with me at all.
Great shame as it was proving to be a killer app in the video world.

  5. Anthony says:

    @alex – Have a look at ManyCam.

any alternatives for splitcam for win7 on 64 bits? have tried everything. nothing worked. please help!
    thanks in advance :)

  7. Anthony says:

@emilyn – First please check that you are running Windows 7 in the 32-bit version, as we know SplitCam does not work on the 64-bit version.
Other than that, the error you are experiencing can really only happen if your user account does not have administrator privileges. Installing a virtual device will require admin rights.

@ayezza gonzalez – SplitCam will simply show in the Windows Add/Remove programs list in the Control Panel. On the desktop, you would see it….

For Windows 7 64 bit try:
    http://www.manycam.com/

Thats what I use and it works fine for me..

  14. Reference to Split Cam running in Windows7, it just WONT!! Microsoft or someone in authority needs to fix whatever. I go to buy a brand new computer and find that the old works better. This Windows 7 sucks anyway, why do they keep up or downgrading their stuff. Money, I suppose…Get with it Gates…

However, now I have just tried to run splitcam in compatibility mode (right-clicked on the program and selected ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’ and got it to run as Windows XP SP2. When the program launched it went ahead and installed the driver (although it prompted it was not signed).

After this is works fine for me.

  16. Adam says:

I am running the 32bit version of Windows 7 and have just tried to install and then launch SplitCam and I also get the message about being unable to install the virtual SplitCam capture device.

  17. Anthony says:

@Fred – Are you running the 32 bit version of Windows 7?

  18. Fred says:

Anthony. Similar to 31-32. Running Window 7. The exact error message is “Error Installing driver for virtual Splitcam capture device. Please restart your computer and try running the application again. If the problem persists contact the software developer.” I have restarted my computer several times and the same message appears. I re-ran the set-up icon in modify mode and repair mode to no avail. Even though the software installation appears successful, I keep getting the above error message. The laptop is new and this is my first time trying to get spltcam to function on this laptop. Please help.

  19. Anthony says:

@Elma – What is your Windows version? And can you give the exact error message?

  23. Anthony says:

@David – SplitCam is not compatible with the 64-bit versions of Windows, so if you are using Windows 7 65-bit, it will not work. You could try SplitVideo, which claims to be 64-bit compatible. If you are using Windows 7 32-bit, please let me know what error you are getting.

  24. David says:

  25. Anthony says:

@Rachel – Are you getting an error downloading the installer or executing the installer? And what is the error exactly?
