How to Detect and Repair Disk Errors in MS Windows XP Professional.
Disk errors can be caused by power outage, hardware failure, viruses, and a number of other causes. In Windows XP you can use a program called chkdsk.exe to scan and fix disk errors. It can be started in a few simple steps.
To detect and repair disk errors in Windows XP Professional:
- Go to the Windows Start menu and select the option, My Computer.
- Select the disk to be checked.
- Then go to the File menu and click Properties option.
- Click the Tools tab.
- Look for the Error-checking section and click the Check Now button.
- Select the option, Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
- Click the Start button.
- Click the OK button twice.
The disk will now be scanned for bad spots and Windows will try to recover the data from it. If that succeeds, the data is moved and the bad spot is marked so no new data will be placed there.
Thank you. It works.
