The standby mode in Windows XP is mostly used with laptops. Closing the lid of your laptop and opening the lid again can use the Windows standby mode to quickly continue working.
But even on a desktop you can use the Windows XP standby mode to bring Windows to a mode from which you can quickly bring it back to continue working.
When using HTML for Outlook messages, you can embed all kind of objects in the email message. But sometimes you might want to send a larger object, like a big document, or something that contains sensitive information. In that case it is better to send the object as an attachment instead of embedded in the message.
If you deal with a lot of e-mails, you can use all the help possible to deal with these e-mails. For some e-mails you might have predefined actions, others might need to be dealt with on priority. In Outlook XP, you can use automatic message flags to call attention to incoming messages. Just configure a message rule for the automatic flags.
The Office assistant in Office XP is a nice add-on to Office. Everytime you need help in MS Word, the Office Assistant pops up to help you find the solution. If you get bored with the default Office Assistant, you can of course turn it off. But there are other variations of the Office Assitant that you can use.
Using MS Excel for tables is a very commen use of a spreadsheet application. But when your tables increases in size, you need to scroll the view. Unfortunately that means any column header (normally in the top row) will scroll out of view. Use the freeze panes options to prevent this.
